[EN] Any of a number of organic compounds analogous to hydrocarbons in which one or more hydrogen atoms are replaced by fluorine. Once used in the United States as a propellant for domestic aerosols, they are now found mainly in coolants and some industrial processes. FCs containing chlorine are called chlorofluoro-carbons (CFCs). They are believed to be modifying the ozone layer in the stratosphere, thereby allowing more harmful solar radiation to reach the Earth' s surface.

[VI] Các hợp chất hữu cơ tương tự hydrocacbon trong đó một hay nhiều nguyên tử hydro được thay thế bằng nguyên tử fluor. Từng được dùng ở Mỹ làm chất đẩy cho bình xịt trong nhà, giờ chúng được tìm thấy chủ yếu trong các bộ tản nhiệt và ở một số quy trình công nghiệp. FCs có chứa clo thì gọi là CFC. Người ta cho rằng chất này (CFC) là thành tố làm mòn lớp ôzôn ở tầng bình lưu, từ đó cho phép các tia bức xạ có hại từ mặt trời đến được bề mặt trái đất.
